Gas worker dies in North Sea platform accident

An offshore gas worker has died after an accident in the North Sea.

The man was airlifted from a Perenco UK platform 70 miles (112km) off the Norfolk coast on Monday morning.

He died later that day in hospital, as the Eastern Daily Press reported.

The company was unable to give details of what happened but said no-one else was hurt. The platform has been closed and gas supplies halted while an investigation is carried out.

The accident happened on the company’s gas platform – known as 23A – in the southern North Sea, north-east of its Bacton terminal on the coast of Norfolk.

A spokesman for Perenco UK Ltd said they were doing all they could “to support the man’s family in these difficult times”.

He added that the company was working with the Health and Safety Executive, Norfolk Police and the Marine Accidents Investigation Branch to determine what happened.
